Understanding Subdomains
Certificates are digital credentials issued by trusted certificate authorities (CAs) that validate the authenticity and integrity of websites. They enable secure data transmission and establish encrypted connections. Every certificate has an expiration date, after which it becomes invalid and should no longer be used to secure digital communications. Expiration of certificates can occur due to oversight in certificate management, lack of proactive monitoring, or failure to renew certificates in a timely manner.
Risks of Expired Certificates:
- Security Vulnerabilities: When certificates expire, the encryption and authentication mechanisms they provide are no longer valid. This exposes digital communications to security vulnerabilities, leaving them susceptible to interception, eavesdropping, and tampering by malicious actors. Expired certificates create an opportunity for attackers to perform man-in-the-middle attacks or impersonate legitimate websites, compromising sensitive information and compromising the confidentiality and integrity of data.
